RUSAL to boost aluminum sales in Russia, CIS by 20% in 2021

MOSCOW, Jun 1 (PRIME) -- Aluminum giant UC RUSAL plans to raise sales of aluminum and its alloys in Russia and the CIS by 20% on the year to 1.2 million tonnes in 2021, Deputy CEO for sales in Russia, the CIS and China Roman Andryushin told PRIME on Tuesday.

“In 2021, we plan to reach a record high of 1.2 million tonnes of sales on the local market, which is 20% more than last year. It is material growth. In 2014, we had 600,000 tonnes and wanted to reach a million,” he said.

“I am absolutely sure that the market has growth potential although there are evident limiting factors, mainly competitive capacities owned by our clients and customers,” he also said, adding that sales are to increase to 1.5 million tonnes in 2025 and 2 million tonnes in 2030.

Global prices for aluminum are likely to stay high for a long time, Andryushin also said. The aluminum price reached a 3-year high of U.S. $2,470 per tonne on the London Metals Exchange in early May.
